Am I ever glad that we weren’t driving to a race on this day! It was pouring cats and dogs and was pretty cold as well - you know us Multisporters don’t like that ‘cross’ weather!
Although the weather was miserable, the Subaru Awards banquet was pretty good. We were provided with a four course meal. Barrie Shepley was the keynote speaker and spoke about the sport and his relationship with Simon Whitfield. His overall message was focus and you will succeed (I’m paraphrasing obviously).
One of the other themes of the afternoon was that Multisport is a lifestyle and that was reinforced for me when the last award was given to a man that was 83 years old. My grandfather died in his 70’s so this was most impressive for me to see not only an older person healthy and vibrant, but competing in the same events that I have been doing this summer - kudos!
When the speaking was finished it was time to hand out the awards. I was impressed with the amount of people that showed up to this event to collect their praise.
Thanks again Cycle Cambridge and sponsors for the help this season!
Here are some pictures from the banquet and the Subaru video can be viewed HERE - Cycle Cambridge and sponsors get some exposure so watch…

There’s no time like now to be in the saddle. While we’re suppose to be settling into trainer mode and off-season hit-and-miss training, the last couple of days have been reminiscent of the summer temperatures we rarely had.
Here are a few examples of training rides ‘around town’ that I’ve done in this unusual balmy weather:

Woke up Sunday morning and the outside temperature read -10 deg C and the quiet Beeton landscape was covered in a thick frost. After a bit of a late wake up, a fine breakfast of whole wheat flapjacks and coffee got the family going and off we went to Hardwood hills to take in this year’s cross race put on by the Barrie Cycling club.
Photos are still being processed but already Suzanne and the kids have popped up on the event photos ( http://flickr.com/photos/shapelike/2996851573/)

hello everyone. 2 days after the event and i am still in agony from the leg cramps that nearly brought this race to an early end. race took place in pine grove furnance state park in pennsylvania. single loop of 62miles. 6600ft of elevation coupled with temps in the 26-27 deg. area and u have a recipe for fun and suffering. 300 riders departed at 9am sunday morn. cool and overcast gave way to sunny blue skies and a rapidly ascending temperature. after 5hrs of clawing my way thru the back woods of pennsylvania i finished this “cyclocross race” nearly in tears and a happy 49th o.v. chek out the event website for more info, results and photos…….i know i am going back next year.
